Coastal Style + Inspiration
I am always in decorating mode. Truth be told, I am running out of spaces in my house since I have really done so much over the years and I shouldn’t be spending the money on revamping things that already feel refreshed. I am however in the midst of a mini room makeover which I will be sharing soon. It’s just a little switch up by creating a focal wall in the kids game room. I painted the whole room including one accent wall and added a few new pillows and voila, it’s a new space. Kind of – said focal wall is not complete yet. I’m teetering between adding a shelf the width of the wall or a whole gallery wall. I love the idea of a shelf lined with fun art, various frames, and succulents but I am not sure if my handyman wants to sign off on this project. I’m the brains and he’s the brawn. 😉 We are in the midst of weeding through the backyard right as well which is a huge undertaking in itself. Sigh. So many weeds, so little time. The tease of spring and this combo of sun + rain has created a bit of a mess and the goal is to get it pulled together before the weather gets too hot. That seems to happen so quickly. We go from cold to hot without enough of the perfect in-between weather.
Coastal style just popped into my head. It’s probably because I am totally craving an island vacation. The sun was out today too but who doesn’t love a good beach vacay? Toes in the sand, cocktail in hand, sun on my face – yes please! Sometimes I get sucked into AirBNB cause it’s just so fun to look at how people decorate their vacation rentals. Tell me I’m not alone?
Coastal decor typically has a light and airy vibe. Usually, you see lots of white, light wood and of course various shades of blue that mimic the water.

HOW TO CREATE A COASTAL ROOM
Are you feeling the beachy decor vibe? A few tricks for creating a beachy space.
- Paint it white – walls and furniture
- Gather things from nature like starfish, driftwood, shells, etc.
- Find old pieces – anchors, oars and anything nautical
- Blue – all the various shades
- Glass jars are an inexpensive way to add pops of color.
