Listen, Learn And Love – What’s Filling My Cup This Week
Hi friends! Wow. Just wow. So many feelings on all.the.things right now. I tend to usually be full of so many words which I then share on this blog of mine but I decided to mute & listen over this past week. I’ve been filling a lot of my time with reading and having conversations to better educate myself on Black Lives Matter and white privilege. As Kevin James said, “If you’re not learning, you are not living.”
I wanted to share how I am leaning in via listening, learning and loving. A few things in particular really stood out to me this week and I wanted to share them here.
I also want to give a shout out to my friend Carly over at Tidy Revival for inspiring the creation of this post with her weekly email. I may have grabbed a bit of info from her to share here with you!
Listen. This is when you actively close your mouth and open your ears + eyes to what is going on around you.
Learn. This is when you are open to learning new things and actively work on ways to be a part of something that might be outside of your comfort zone.
Love. This is when you use compassion to do the above (listen and learn with love).
A few things that spoke to me this week:
You Asked, I Answered: 7 Difficult Questions About Racism by Shola Richards answers some hard questions and I love that this guy is a self-professed kindness extremist.
Cineplex Store is hosting a collection of movies called Understanding Black Stories. From their site: In a time when many are turning to movies to become informed and empowered, we want to help. This collection of important films was curated to elevate Black stories, artists, and filmmakers and spark discussion. These films are available to view at no cost. Watch the collection here.
Kierra at Hey Beloved Mama shared this post on Instagram and my heart burst open (and to be clear, my inner mama bear is already untamed). #iammama
I am currently listening to this podcast from The Okayest Moms.
I discovered Carlos Whittaker this week and hello kindness! His feed is full of GOOD STUFF. This video really spoke to some things I was struggling with.
I am currently reading, When They Call You A Terrorist, A Black Lives Matter Memoir. I am half-way through and it’s made me cry a few times.
These are also on my reading list:
- How To Be An Anti-Racist
- Me and White Supremacy
- White Fragility, Why It’s So Hard For White People To Talk About Racism
If you are looking for more reading materials, please check out this list of resources at Diverse Books.
I hope that everyone is doing their best and practicing self-care. Give yourself space to breathe in this season of change.
