$100 Room Makeover Challenge | Week 2 | Guest Room

Hello friends! We are in week 2 of this $100 room makeover. Honestly? I haven’t done that much this week! I prepped the furniture and started to paint it yesterday BUT … I hated the color. Like, seriously I just couldn’t even commit. So I basically stopped after a painting a few drawer tops and shifted gears. To my bathroom makeover! Ha! Cause why not juggle multiple room makeovers at once? Anyway, I decided that I was still going green cause it’s such a fun change up BUT I need something brighter. Prickly Pear was just not my jam. Don’t get me wrong, it was a pretty color but on the furniture, it just seemed too soft and muted. I decided to pick up Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Florence. I love how easy AS is to use. It doesn’t require a ton of prep and it dries so quickly. It’s a bit more green in person. I might change it up by adding some walnut stain to it and I always use Minwax Polycrylic to seal my paint projects. Annie Sloan recommendsย her wax but I am not the biggest fan of the wax. It takes more steps and more curing. I am not a patient girl so Polycrylic is my go to.

Kinda funny story. I just bought a new purse last week. I am all about the crossbody purses and I found the cutest one at Steinmart. Well, guess what? It’s green. Like the Florence paint green! I didn’t even think about it until the lady at the store pointed it out when I bought the paint. She said, “I like your purse” and I looked down and we both laughed. Hmmmm, guess it was a sign. I found my exact purse on Amazon but I did pay way less at Steinmart.

This week has been full of painting projects. Hopefully, by next week, I will have all of the furniture placed. I need to take down a shelf in the guest room and patch the holes where the shelf was. The new headboard will be too tall to keep the shelf. My husband AKA my handyman has been working a whole lot lately too. He does the heavy lifting around here. He will be home a couple of days this week which will hopefully allow some projects to get completed.

Honestly, this is a pretty easy makeover. Most of the labor is in painting the furniture and figuring out how to mount the headboard. I’ll repaint a couple of old frames and print out some art, change out the bedding and voila, it’ll be complete!

How are you doing this week? Are you in the new year’s club of purging and organizing? We have done quite a bit of that too. My husband insists that all the mess in the garage is mine. Hmmmmm. I will have to take some pics cause aside from the current projects and my seasonal decor, it’s all his. Well, there might be way too much paint that I am not planning to use anymore but I will be cleaning that out and making a trip to the fire department when they have their drop off days for hazardousย waste. Otherwise, I am NOT owning the garage mess. Ha! Update: I have quite the pile of paint to dispose of so yes, I’m guilty of contributing to some of the garage mess BUT it’s from years worth of projects and rooms that have changed, etc.

Be sure to check out some of the other awesome makeovers in progress at other blogs below. I see lots of closets this time around and I do love me a good closet redo!

  1. Green is a great color to work with because it reminds us of nature and goes with everything. Anne Sloan paint is also a great choice for ease and it has that modern feel too that everyday latex doesn’t provide. Can’t wait to see it all come together.

  2. Oh no, I am so sorry you didn’t like the paint color! I hate when that happens. I am impressed you didn’t just go with it anyway, I probably would have. I like how you decided to go in a different direction. Good for you! I can’t wait to see it.
