$100 Room Makeover Challenge | Week 4 | Master Bedroom | The Reveal

Well hey there!  If you have been following along then you have seen that I joined Lemons, Lavender and Laundry for the $100 room challenge and I chose my master bedroom as my project. If you are just joining in, see the bottom of this post to get the links for weeks 1-3. The day has finally come. Reveal day!! Woot woot! I am so excited to show you what I have done with my master bedroom. I am so happy with how things turned out. Seriously. What a fun change. Let’s talk about what this redo entailed, shall we?

I started with a pretty clean space that had been well loved over the years. I felt like it was time for a refresh though. I decided I’d paint the walls and change up some decor. Well, that escalated quickly {name the movie!}. I ended up repainting furniture and having some issues with my curtains. Note to all: Do not wash your curtains with no-sew hem tape. It turns them into an unraveled ugly mess. Like the kind of mess that you’d rather look away from. Forever. So the curtains are washed and in a giant pile in my guest room. Behind closed doors, cause I can’t even.

So I bought some cute new accessories. That was fun. Then I prepped the room for painting. This is when things took a turn. I decided that my white dresser was starting to look yellow so I decided to paint it. Cause why not? Then I decided to paint my nightstands too. Cause, why not? 😉 So I used paint that I had on hand and gave my furniture a little makeover. It was a dramatic change but one that I am SO happy with. I also added new knobs which added to my budget.

My husband also pitched in and me and built an awesome frame for our TV. A few people had mentioned that it needed a place to vent so that it wouldn’t overheat. Thank you for that suggestion cause honestly, we hadn’t even considered that. So we drilled several holes around the perimeter of the frame. They aren’t visible but will hopefully let more air get to the TV. The fun happy sign was a birthday gift from my sweet sister-in-law and the lanterns were in my $100 budget as was the spray paint to re-paint them.

I  shopped my home which was a great way to save money but I did come in $1 over budget. We had the paint, wood for the TV frame, window frame, wreath and several other home decor pieces on hand.

Styled trays are a great way to dress up a space.

I love using faux plants in my decor.

These plant hangers are my favorite new find.

I love this little Hobby Lobby tray for holding the remotes for our TV and ceiling fan/light.

Here is what I did spend my money on:

• knobs $22 {I also sold my old knobs for $20 which was awesome!}
• lanterns and hooks  $21
• quilt set $36 {I see that this has gone up $11 since I bought it}
• spray paint  $7
• plant and pot $10
• wall plant holders $6

Total $101

Without further anticipation, here is my master bedroom makeover.

Drum roll please!

I love this wall. I had the table and it was already painted so no changes were needed there. I added some decor that I already had except for the little plant hangers which are just too cute! I found them in the garden department at Home Depot. I also used some jute to cover the cement pot on the little-potted plant on the table. It just made it tie into the space a bit better. The cute sign is an old Target find. The lantern was a Rod Works find and the M was from Hobby Lobby. Have you been to Rod Works? It’s ah-mazing! I already had all that fun stuff around my house. I am a bit of a home decor hoarder. Seriously. I love me some home decor!

I was able to buy a new quilt on Amazon for a whopping $27.99! Seriously. What a steal. Cal King quilts are a pain to find. They have to be oversized to fit and they are usually expensive. It wasn’t too expensive so I won’t feel bad if I decide to change it out down the road. I had planned to reuse an old quilt but it’s gone missing. I have a feeling that it might have ended up at Goodwill on accident 🙁 I already had the old window frame and wreath. I love how they add a fun contrast against the cream wall.

This dresser cost me $40 several years ago on Craigslist. What a steal! It’s a pretty solid piece. I have now repainted it twice. I simplified the accessories on top. Before there were several frames. I wanted it to feel clean and uncluttered. We also put the tech stuff on the floor. It needs a better storage solution but I haven’t figured that out yet. It’s on my to do list. I swear!

Also, update on the curtain dilemma. I ended up grabbing some curtains from my guest room and instead of two panels per window, I used one. I like how fresh it feels. It helps soften the space. My husband is not happy with how long they are but I do not own a sewing machine and I was not about to use no sew hem tape again. I will likely have my aunt help me hem them in the near future as she is a pro and has a sewing machine. The lighting in my room is great unless you are trying to take photos. Then it gets all wonky and has awful glares so my apologies for that. You might be able to kinda see the curtains in the background. They are light and airy which is exactly the look I was going for in this space.

Also, I love love love plants. Live plants preferably but I have a cat. Shall I continue? He eats any live plant or flower that exists in my house and then throws it up. It’s quite charming really. Sigh. For this reason, I have grown to love faux plants and greenery. It is much lower maintenance and gives the pops of color that I am looking for. Sorry kitty!
