week 1 /week 2 /week 3 /week 4 / week 5

A few weeks back, I had lunch with my creative friend Alicia {over at Allie Studios} and she seriously filled me up. Do you ever just walk away from someone feeling so pumped up? Well that is how I felt. I feel like she just gave me some awesome guidance and I needed that friends. I needed someone to lay things out for me. I needed it more than I realized. She told me that I needed to stay focused on the things I am best at and stay in the Gabby lane. Duh right? So basically I am trying to stay focused on projects {organizing and decor}, recipes and of course my constant high fives + inspiration. It’s easy to try and expand on all of the other things I like but then things start to feel cluttered and hello, I am an organized girl! I don’t have time for clutter. Why am I am a sharing this bit of randomness with you? Because it helped me set some goals. One of which is to create + complete projects. The laundry room makeover has been on my list and now we are making it happen.

As this challenge kicks off, I wanted to share some of my inspiration. I’ve been mentally working on this space for awhile. I bought the tile for the floors last month and I am working on the other pieces as well. Tomorrow, I will start the room prep. I need to take down the old metal shelf, patch some holes and empty cabinets then I will get down to the nitty-gritty of cleaning everything up to start the painting process. This space needs some serious painting. The cabinets are getting a makeover as well as the walls. We are also planning to demo the tile and install a wood countertop and a utility sink which we are already plummed for.  I have gone back and forth about whether to do some shiplap on one of the walls. I should mention that my husband aka handyman might not be on board with shiplap. I had to talk him into new tiles for the floor already. I have to keep him engaged and not overloaded. #hubbyhelper

Here is my inspiration. I’m leaning towards one of these magnolia colors for the cabinets. The white is more of an inspiration for the walls. I bought the sign at Kirkland’s several months ago. That’s basically where it started. Every design has to start somewhere, am I right? Kirkland’s doesn’t carry the sign anymore but I found a similar one here. I love the rustic wood but I don’t think we will go quite this dark. It’s just a piece of wood I had in the garage and I wanted to see how things looked all pulled together. I picked up the tile at Lowes. The price was right and I love the simplicity of the black + white.

I’m torn between Silverado Sage and Local Greenhouse. I used Magnolia Green for a previous project and really liked the quality of the paint.

What do you think? Several people said I should go with white cabinets but I’d like a bit of color in the space since everything else will be black + white.

This is my laundry room now. In all it’s shining glory. Oh, I should mention that it’s also where the cat eats and does his business. I have a plan to hide his litter box too. Fingers crossed that it all comes together.

  • The paint color looks a bit like local greenhouse but in person, it’s more blue than green.
  • The floors are  U G L Y!!
  • I can’t wait to see this space become cute and less cluttered. I’m already buying accessories!
  • F U N   F A C T: I always fold my laundry before it leaves this space. Then my ‘helper’ puts it away. My boys both have set chores and this is assigned to my youngest.

I have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to making over this space. Here are a few of my favorites.

The Learner Observer seriously rocked this space. I love   A L L    O F    I T!! She’s given me a few fun ideas like adding a letterboard and some faux flowers. How cute is the little vase that she used for the flowers? Update: I found one similar today at TJ Maxx! ON CLEARANCE!

I love the makeover at Cherished Bliss. The wood shelf is something I plan to add above my washer and dryer. I also love how she used the industrial pipe to hang things. I want something to hang my occasional delicates as well as my collection of aprons that currently reside in the laundry room. I also spy yet another letterboard on display. They really do add something fun to a space. Also, please notice her awesome floors which she stenciled! I was going to go that route but I found tile for a decent price so we switched gears. Still, her floors look fab!

This laundry room at Dear Lillie was what first inspired me. I love her use of black and white throughout although I am still feeling like painting my cabinets, the rest will be black and white. This space is just so pretty and serene.

Y’all know I am a H U G E fan of all things Magnolia and this entire house is so good but I really like the simplicity of the laundry room. The counters are a grey color which just makes them stand out a bit. I also love the wood countertop which is what we plan to do in our makeover.

I am so excited {and a wee bit terrified} to makeover our laundry room for the One Room Challenge. Follow along to see how things unfold {ha – I’m just gonna leave that one alone}. Have a great week friends!

How much crap is in the uppers?..can you eliminate them and do open shelving?..do the gorgeous sage on the lowers..and a soft white on the walls..love the dark wood too..an awesome chandy (fixture) would knock it out of the park!..go Gabby go!!!✌❤

    1. I love you!! We are doing the shiplap! The uppers are great storage. Especially since we are losing the lowers to a sink and a cat box. I chose Silverado Sage. You pushed me! 😉 Thank you for your cheerleading sweet friend. You are my muse. xo
