Simplicity

Hello sweet friends! It’s almost the new year and with that comes the feel of a fresh start. It’s a time for simplicity and doing less. Technically, every day is a fresh start but for many of us – a new year signifies the start of something new. With the hustle and bustle of a busy season behind us, we are ready to start anew. It’s almost like a new year is a clean slate.

Around here, the new year means that I get organized. I start with neatly packing away my Christmas decor and tucking it away in the attic until next season when it’ll make it’s appearance once again. January is a great time to get yourself organized as well. With Christmas comes more stuff and when you get new things, it’s a great time to get rid of old things. Take the time to hand off what doesn’t serve you or add purpose to your life. It’ll free you both phsycially and emotionally. I promise.

Does the act of simplifying your home stress you out? Make a list of the spaces you want to see changed. Tackle them one at a time. Maybe one day you can declutter a whole room, maybe another day you only have a small window and you can tackle something simple like a junk drawer. One day, one project at a time. #youvegotthis I love a good list that allows me to see progress by crossing out things I have accomplished. If you are still feeling stuck, I might be able to help. I am kicking off my design + organizing business in 2019. You can find the scoop here. Making a house feel pretty + pulled together is my jam.

Do you need to simplify in other areas of your life? Recently, I was talking to a friend about saying no. So many peoople struggle with this as they feel that they are letting others down and with that comes guilt. A couple of friends of mine both spoke about self-care and saying no in NOvember. Tami is so good about celebrating self-care. Kachet was her sidekick in this challenge. Both are powerful woman who shine as examples of what it’s like to just do you and say no as needed.  Personally, I am a huge avocate of taking care of myself. If I am not emotionally or physically healthy, then how I can I take care of others? Say no. It’s OK. You are not responsible for making everyone else happy. Most peoople will respect your ability to know your own limits and guess what? If they don’t then they aren’t your people and you can move on – guilt free.
