Why I Love Podcasts + Books
Hey friends!! I felt this burst of inspiration this morning as I was listening to a podcast and it made me think about how much I love the little (and sometimes big) takeaways that I get from podcasts and books. It seems that there are nuggets to be found in so many places but podcasts and books are my go too. I think social media can also offer up some good ‘nuggets’.
WHAT ARE NUGGETS?
If you have followed along, then you have noticed that I use the word nuggets a lot. This is not chicken nuggets ya’ll. This is life nuggets. Little bits of inspiration that you gather from various life sources. I kinda geek out on life nuggets. If I am reading a book, I have a highlighter handy to capture the things that inspire me. When I listen to podcasts, I am often hitting pause on my phone to add ‘nuggets’ to an ongoing list I have.

WHAT IS A PODCAST?
A little google search defines a podcast as a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically. The term Podcast is actually a portmanteau of iPod and Broadcast.
Honestly, I am very new to the podcast bandwagon. I used to be a big music listener while on my walks but now I am exclusively into podcasts. Music is for the car because I love me some carpool karaoke. Podcasts are easy listening as I am on my morning (and sometimes afternoon) walkabouts. I listen to a variety of things and I am always open to new ideas so if you have some favorites, I’d love to hear about them.
MY FAVORITE PODCASTS
- Armchair Expert – Dax Shepard leads this fun podcast with celebrities and real experts on various topics and he literally makes me laugh out loud.
- Tami Hackbarth – Tami offers some great nuggets on self-care.
- Oprah Super Soul Conversations – I love the meaningful real-life conversations that Oprah has with her guests.
- Goal Digger Podcast – Jenna Kutcher is an entrepreneur who shares her personal experience + passion for running a business.
- Rise – Dave and Rachel are a well-oiled machine in regards to business + coaching. I love them both but this podcast is mostly Rachel and her guests BUT you can catch their couples podcast, Rise Together, here.
- Marie Forleo – I love the humor and sass behind this megawatt life coach + multi-passionate powerhouse.
- Jay Shetty – Jay works on inspiring others through coaching with the tools he learned as a monk.
- For the Love – Jen Hatmaker is one of the best storytellers I have ever heard. I love her honesty and fun way of connecting with her audience. Her Instagram feed is also a favorite of mine.
- Light the Fight – Heidi Swapp is someone I’ve followed for many years as a pioneer of the scrapbook community but I stumbled upon this podcast because of a search for parenting-related content. Heidi and her therapist, David Kozlowski, tackle hard things in the realm of parenting. This podcast came to light after Heidi’s son, Corey, committed suicide. I applaud the honesty and vulnerability of this podcast. It feels like a must in the world of navigating parenting.
MY FAVORITE THINGS ABOUT BOOKS
Here’s the thing, I love an old fashioned book. I love the pages, I love the smell. I love to highlight my favorite parts. I love to lend them to friends. Audible and digital books aren’t my thang. I know that those two versions of ‘reading’ have become quite popular and if that’s how you do books, then yeah you! We all have our book love language and mine is piles and pages of good ol’ paperback or hardcover.

MY GENRE OF ENTERTAINMENT
Obviously I am a fan of the memoirs and fun stuff. I love real-life stories and I am looking for cup fillers. I’m inspired by real-life events and situations. I love love and I love comedy. I shy away from violence and historical as those aren’t my language. We all have things that speak to us. Chase those things. Let them light you up!
Have a beautiful day! I hope you find little nuggets that fill up your cup.
Good stuff Gabby 🙂
