$100 Room Makeover Challenge | Week 1 | Guest Room

Hello and happy 2018! I am still in shock that we are already done with Christmas. Time sure does fly by! Erin over at Lemons, Lavender and Laundry has kicked off another $100 room makeover challenge and I had to jump on board. This time around, I will be giving my guest room a makeover spending $100 or less.

I have to give props to Erin. Not only has she been on The Rachael Rayย Show to talk about this fun challenge, she has also been featured on The Jason Show and will be doing another segment there on January 9th. She has done some pretty awesome room makeovers and you should definitely check out her blog. This was a fun way for me to engage with other like-minded homeowners and I loved the inspiration along the way. Check out Melissa at Brown Dog Vintage and Wendy at At Lane and High for some more bloggy inspiration. They’ve become a few of my favorites but there are so many fun bloggers participating. Check out the link at the bottom to follow along with us as we tackle these spaces for $100 or less!

So let’s talk about my space. When we first moved into this house 13.5 years ago, it was used as a playroom for my kids. About 5.5 years ago, we decided that the kids had outgrown the space and spent more time outside or on technology. I had the armoire and we borrowed a queen bed from a friend. She didn’t have space for it but would want it back after her baby outgrew her crib and needed a big girl bed. Win/win. We built the shelf and I added in a few frames and pieces of art that were gifted to my grandparents years ago. We ended up with the bed frame when my dad passed away 2.5 years ago. I don’t love it and it isn’t a sentimental piece but we will keep it in our house. It will just be rehomed into my oldest son’s room and I will grab his bed frame which I can use with the beautiful screen that I bought last summer at a garage sale.

So what will change in this space? I am happy with the paint color and with all of the other upcoming paint projects that I am planning for 2018, I don’t want to paint this space. See below for the fun things I have I have planned for this makeover.

  • Painting the armoire and also an awesome nightstand/side table that my sister found on the street by her house. I LOVE free stuff!! I might also use this for my laundry room cabinets if I really love how it comes out.

  • Creating a headboard using the beautiful wood screen that I found at a garage sale back in September.

  • Adding a few new throw pillows and a new throw blanket {thank you IKEA!}

I am excited about this $100 room makeover. I am hopeful that I stay under budget and that it’s a pretty quick makeover. Aside from this space, I am working on making over the guest bathroom and the laundry room which has been on my list for some time. My mind is buzzing over the many things I want to overhaul in our home this year. I have lots of little refreshes and tweaks planned to brighten up this home of ours. I forsee lots of paint in my future!

Are you doing any refreshes in our home in the upcoming months? If you could redo any space, what would it be?

  1. Hi Gabrielle,

    I’m a huge fan of botanical prints. I have so many in my home and they are going to look so pretty in your guest room. I can’t wait to see more.

  2. I’m excited to see your reveal. That screen…swoon. Just stumbled upon this $100 challenge and can’t wait to try it–although for my first attempt I think I will just take a go at it and see what happens. Going to have a go at our guest bedroom too. Oh boy, now you have me really thinking.

  3. I absolutely love everything you are doing in this room! The color is beautiful and that screen is amazing! I wish I could find cool stuff like that when I go shopping! I cannot wait to see your progress!
