DIY – How To Make A Twinkle Light Wreath

Hey there! This year, I did a major overhaul of my Christmas decor. I just felt like I wanted more earthy and less bling. I was able to incorporate lots of fun elements including lighted garland, burlap trees from the Target Dollar Spot {last years purchase}, faux trees, lots of sweet little houses {Dollar Spot and Joann’s}, faux wreaths, wood signs, pom-pom garlands and of course, lanterns. I love twinkly lights and tea lights to add a festive ambiance to every space in my house this time of year. In the past, I haven’t decorated my bedroom but this year, I added some holiday flair to my room and the guest room.  I had the cutest wreath above my bed BUT I had to do some last minute Christmas decor swapping before our annual holiday party on Saturday. It left a sad empty space above my bed. Que how to make a twinkle light wreath.

Supplies needed:

I happened to have all of these things already. The reindeer head is what spurred this project. It was supposed to get stuck to this big red chalkboard but I couldn’t get it to stick so that’s why I moved my bedroom wreath to the chalkboard so there wasn’t a gaping hole on the first wall you see in my house. Cause I don’t do the chalkboard art thing. I let my super talented sister-in-law do that for me but she lives 6 hours away.

Let me tell you how this all went down. I bought the paper mache reindeer head at Hobby Lobby over a month ago. I thought it would look cute somewhere. Then the giant red frame came into play. It was an old frame that I found in my attic. I spray painted the frame red and turned it into a giant chalkboard and hung it where our tree normally goes. Yes, I said normally. That is a whole other story. I like to call it the year of the smallest tree we’ve ever bought. I will explain that in a later post. Anyway, I bought some adhesive and tried to hang the reindeer. But it kept falling down. So I gave up and put up the wreath in its place. Which looked super cute so there it shall stay for the remainder of the season.

So I needed to replace the wreath in my bedroom. Originally, I wanted to just add a plain ol’ wreath but because my room is decorated for Christmas, it needed a little more bling. Plus the frame is already a natural wood so I need something to make it stand out. I also didn’t want to spend any more money on decor. I decided to wrap a grapevine wreath with small twinkle lights. Once I hung it on my existing old window frame, it looked boring. So I was able to add the reindeer head by poking a hole in the back and using an existing nail. It’s not super flashy but it adds a bit of rustic whimsy to the room.

I wanted to do a video but you guys would have been in hysterics. Well, for two reasons. First, I am not great at the whole video thing #workinprogress Second, have you worked with grapevine? It’s actually kinda creepy cause it immediately grabs on to anything near it and wraps itself around said object. So you can imagine how fun it was to try and wrap a strand of mini lights. Wind and unwind was pretty much my method.

I have to get some sleep tonight. Tomorrow I am going with my sister to attempt to get photos of my sweet baby nieces at a tree farm. I should mention that one of them is crawling everywhere and the other is mobile but just not as fast yet. Tomorrow might be the day. Double trouble I tell ya!
