$100 Room Makeover Challenge | Week 4 | Guest Room

Hey friends! So I hadย jury duty the last two days. Boooo! I know it’s one of my civic duties but I’d rather not give up the time to do it. It was my first time being on a jury. I was #13 and then #2 got sent home due to conflicts so I became #2. Me sitting still for hours? Not an easy thing. I felt so fidgety and I could barely keep my eyes open because things just felt like they were on repeat. It’s behind me now and it was an interesting experience. Plus, I met some super friendly and compassionate people. We had a good group. Aside from this blog, a friend and I are talking about starting a home organizing business so things are busy y’all! Would you pay someone to come and help you get organized? It looks like there might really be a market for this!

If you have been following along then you know that I am participating in Erin from Lemons,ย Lavender, and Laundry $100 room challenge. What does this mean? It means that I have 1 month to redo a space in my home for $100 or less. Back in September, I made over my master bedroom. Goย here to see that reveal. Erin has really grown this challenge and it’s been so fun to be a part of something so creative and budget minded. Plus meeting other like-minded bloggers has been a treat.

The guest room is coming together. The headboard is up, bed made, furniture painted and next week in the reveal, I’ll be sharing with you how I’m dressing up the space using what I have around the house or as I also call it, ‘shopping my home‘.

So far I used a beautiful wood screen that cost me $40 at a yard sale. I already had this and it wasn’t intentionally bought for this project. So that means I am not counting it in the budget. It actually had 4 pieces but that made it too big so we removed one which made it the perfect size. We saved the extra screen for a future project. I am not quite sure what that might be just yet. Next up, I had my paint dilemma. The first can was bought using a gift card so no money out of pocket. It was too blah for what I was painting. I am actually hoping to sell it and make some of the money back as well. The next can cost me $40, but it was too bold and the next was $20. So I am technically $65 invested in the paint. Such a bummer but I am finally happy with the color. I also have to say, this was my first time using Magnolia paint and I was really happy with the quality. I chose the cabinet and trim sheen and it was a bit glossy but for furniture, that worked perfectly. Below is my version of a sneak peak of the armoire. I noticed the knobs don’t line up. I am not quite sure why or even when this happened. I’ve decided it adds character and I will not be trying to fix it. Behind those doors is my collection of curtains and throw rugs, you know — important stuff for the changing seasons {also known as I have an addiction to all the textiles}.

Next up? I will be using some free printables that I have found over on Pinterest and adding them to some old frames that I’ve had for years. I thought I’d have to paint them but they match the headboard perfectly so I will leave them as is. I am also tweaking the pillows and throw blanket on the bed. I am deciding on whether I love the things I have bought {and if I can save by using something I already have in the house!}.

How cute are these printables over at Magnolia?

Free printables are one of my favorite ways to change up my decor. I keep saying that I want to create my own printables but so far I haven’t made that happen! Goals. I have it on my to-do list.

Be sure to check out the other bloggers participating in this fun challenge. It’s been so much fun seeing what others do with $100 or less.

    1. I stumbled upon the free printables and loved them. I am so glad that I found this challenge and YOU! As far as the organizing business – I am rethinking it. I just don’t know how much I can juggle and I really want to take the time to work on the blog and see it thrive.
