DIY Farmhouse Bathroom Makeover

Hey friends! Back in January, I decided that our guest bathroom needed a revamp. Nothing major like retiling or installing new floors {cause I want to stay married. Ha!} but the cabinets got a color change, I painted the walls and changed up the decor.

I really do love the whole farmhouse vibe although the exterior of my house is most definitely anything but farmhouse. We live in a track home and the style is much more Tuscan. My interior has a lot of rustic + farmhouse vibes though. It’s the style that I love the most.

Of course, the photos I have are from right before, when it was still semi-decorated for Christmas. The bathroom walls have seen several paint colors over the years. The most recent was Sea Salt by Sherwin Williams which is a great greenish blue that goes with so many things. I was just ready for a total neutral overhaul so I chose Hazelnut Cream by Behr which is the color that I’ve been repainting most of my house lately. There has also been quite the revolving switch up of shower curtains and decor. I’d never tackled the cabinets before so that was definitely a game changer in the space.

Yes, that is a 12 Days of Christmas shower curtain. It was a HomeGoods find years ago and I love it!

C H A N G E S   M A D E

• This was a fairly quick makeover. I took the cabinet doors off and cleaned everything up using Simple Green {it’s my go-to for getting all of the grime off of cabinets}. I also took off all of the cabinet hardware and taped it together and numbered each set so that I could easily put it back on the correct cabinets.
• Then I taped off the cabinets as to keep things neat.
• I did minor repairs on the walls {filled holes from the previous decor}. This is my go-to product for filling nail holes. Once they dried, I gave the area a light sanding to even out rough spots.
• First I painted the walls, and then the cabinets. I actually painted the cabinet drawers on my kitchen table as it was a flat, well-lit surface.
• Once everything was dry, I put the cabinet doors back on and then it was time to decorate. This, of course, is my favorite part. I had picked up my new shower curtain and bath mat at Target. I found a few accessories on-line at Amazon, the lights were from Costco {I linked similar}, the wreath and towels were Marshall’s finds {similar linked above}. I added in cute wall art from Michaels {similar here} and added a few robe hooks as the towel hooks which replaced the original towel bar. On the counter, I kept it simple. I used a small metal tray that I found at Hobby Lobby to hold hand soap and a small candle. On the other end of the counter, I added fun ceramic pot + faux plant and another candle. I didn’t want things to feel cluttered.

We’ve been using this made over space since January and I love it! It feels so fresh and new and it didn’t break the bank. I spent right around $250 on paint, supplies, decor and then I shopped my house for a few things.

If you could make over any room in your house? What would you choose? I am always on a mission to switch up something around here. Next up is our laundry room. That will be a bigger project for sure as we are going to install tile floors and install a sink. Thankfully it’s already plumbed for a sink which will make it a relatively easy install. We will also be pulling out our tile countertop + backsplash and building a wood countertop. I am so excited to make over this space as I spend loads of time in there. Get it? See what I did there?
