Strawberry Donut Shortcake
Hey friends! It’s summertime and that means that some of my favorite foods are in season, including strawberries. It also gets pretty hot around here which means I want food that doesn’t require a whole lot of work. There seems to be a bit of a trend these days as far as deconstructed desserts. That might sound complicated but I promise you, it really isn’t! Is this a new term for you? What it means is that a typical dessert is recreated with a twist. Recently, I saw a recipe for a strawberry donut shortcake. Say what? Strawberry shortcake is one of my go-to desserts in the summer. I love this version which is the normal fresh strawberries and homemade whipped cream sandwiched in-between a glazed donut. The minute I saw that recipe, I knew I had to recreate it.
I am a big fan of homemade whipped cream. It’s easy to make and tastes so much better than canned or Cool Whip. You just buy a small container of heavy whipping cream, add a bit of sugar to taste and voila, you just leveled up and became extra cool to your already super fans.
